To: Students Interested in Upcoming Amateur Extra Class

This message is going out to all of you who have expressed an interest in participating in an Amateur Radio Extra Level Licensing Class. Since the question pool has just over 600 questions in it, trying to put together a class model has proven to be very difficult. Perhaps that’s why Frank Warren never did it.

But I believe that I have come up with a plan that will work. I now have dates, times and a location. And more important, I have what I believe to be a workable method to cover all this EXTRA material (no pun intended) without you having to spend days and days with your heads buried into the textbook and study materials. So, here’s my plan.

First, the dates, times and location. The dates of October 10 th and 11 th and then October 17 th and 18 th of 2026 have been reserved at the Clubhouse of the Vineyards 55+ Mobile Home Community at 6118 Edith Blvd. in Northeast Albuquerque. This is the same location where we’ve held the last several class sessions. The times available to us are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, just as before. I believe I have found a way that we can add half-again as much material (600 questions instead of 400 questions) into the same 32-hours.

The thought here is that nobody wants to spend more than two consecutive weekends on this. That much time is even considered by some to be unbearable. So here is my plan to make the studying less difficult while still covering all the added material. I am asking you to take advantage of a NEW, FREE, ON-LINE teaching service called MyHamRadioStudy. By reading your books and then devoting a small amount of your time to using this website prior to the in-class review sessions you will guarantee yourself that you will be familiar with all the questions and their correct answers and understand what this material is all about.

The MyHamRadioStudy website is the work of Mr. Thom Baxter WI4USA in Crestview, Florida (East of Pensacola in the Florida panhandle). It is a “free resource for the amateur radio community. Whether you’re studying for your Technician, General, or Extra class license -- this tool is for you. This is 100% free — no catch, no strings attached. ... This is my way of giving back to the hobby.”

Here’s what’s included with his study program for free:

• Full question pools for Technician, General, and Extra

• Smart study mode with spaced repetition

• Progress tracking to identify weak areas

• Practice exams that simulate the real test

• Flashcard mode for quick review

• Ham radio tools — band plans, calculators, and more

• Daily challenges to keep you sharp

You will be required to “sign-in” to gain access to all these tools and features but there are no fees or costs involved. By signing in to use this service you are providing us with access to how well you are doing in learning this material. That way we can provide you extra support if necessary. The sooner you get started with this, the more time you will have to learn the material. This EXTRA class will start on April 1 st and run through October 1 st . That gives you six months to work on learning this material.

It’s almost time to get started. April 1st is less than a week away. You should purchase your ARRL Extra License Manual from Amazon.com for $33. You can purchase a copy of the No-Nonsense Extra-Class Study Guide from Amazon.com or from KB6NU. And signing up for the study app is free. All I’m asking from you right now is to learn if this time allotment fits into your schedule. Please respond to this email and let me know if this works for you. Thank you all.
